Five New Paltz students receive Chancellor’s Awards for Student Excellence
NEW PALTZ – Five seniors from the State University of New York at New Paltz have received the 2013 SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence. They are: Faith Hassell, an industrial and organizational psychology major, from East Meadow, N.Y.; Kimberly Lepore, a psychology major, from Standfordville, N.Y.; Destiny Denise Saldivar, a psychology major, from Washington Heights, N.Y.; Marissa Stephani, an interpersonal and intercultural communication major, from Deer Park, N.Y.; and Chelsea Stokes, an English major, from Long Island, N.Y.
The Chancellor’s Award recipients will be honored at a ceremony in Albany on April 4. Each recipient will receive a framed certificate and a medallion, which is traditionally worn at commencement.
The Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence was created in 1997 to recognize students who have best demonstrated, and been recognized for, the integration of academic excellence with accomplishments in the areas of leadership, athletics, community service, creative and performing arts or career achievement. A selection committee, appointed by each college’s president, nominates graduating seniors who meet the criteria. Nominees are then forwarded to the Chancellor’s Office for a second round of review before final recommendations are sent to the Chancellor.
