State University of New York at New Paltz golf tournament supports college scholarship fund
NEW PALTZ – The State University of New York at New Paltz will hold the Doug Sheppard Classic Annual Scholarship Golf Tournament on Monday, June 13, at the Wiltwyck Golf Club in Kingston. Proceeds from the event will go toward a scholarship endowment for SUNY New Paltz students.
The tournament is named in memory of the longtime professor, administrator and coach, Doug Sheppard, who died in 2008. Shep, as he was known to many, was not only the golf coach for 32 years, but a golfer who was a fixture at local golf courses and tournaments in the area.
Registration and breakfast begin at 8 a.m. and the shotgun start of the four-person scramble format takes place at 9 a.m.
The $200 entry fee includes 18 holes of golf with cart, breakfast, refreshments on the course, beverage carts, tournament logo gear and awards banquet dinner. Each player is eligible for awards, contests and prizes that will be presented at a banquet dinner at 3 p.m. in the Wiltwyck Golf Club Ballroom. The dinner also features a raffle and silent auction. The banquet is open to non-golfers as well for $50.
Golfers can register as individuals or in teams of up to four players. To register online for the tournament, or if you are interested in being a sponsor, visit www.newpaltz.edu/golf or call (845) 257-3986 or 3972.
The event will be held rain or shine and is sponsored by Campus Auxiliary Services, Sodexo; IBEW, Validis Resources, Key Bank, Wilmorite and Kirchhoff Consigli Construction Management. Beverages are provided by Pepsi.
