Support of Governor Cuomo’s NYSUNY 2020 program
NEW PALTZ- “Today, Governor Cuomo and SUNY Chancellor Nancy Zimpher announced NYSUNY 2020 – a new program that will allow the four SUNY university centers to apply for funding available to drive economic revitalization in the regions they serve,” stated Interim President Donald P. Christian.
He then added, “NYSUNY 2020 is anchored by a $140 million capitol program, with $35 million allocated for each of the four university centers ($20 million from the Governor’s office and $15 million from the SUNY Construction Fund). This comprehensive proposal advances SUNY’s academic mission and spurs regional development.
As Interim President of a SUNY campus, I join my presidential colleagues in supporting this partnership between SUNY and the Governor as a concrete step in recognizing the SUNY System as a key economic driver in New York.
This program starts with the university centers, but if successful, it can expand to campuses throughout the System, and we look forward to the day when it can also benefit SUNY New Paltz and the surrounding region.
We also applaud the Governor’s stated support today of a rational tuition policy.”
