New Paltz invites four finalists for president to campus
NEW PALTZ– The Presidential Search Committee at the State University of New York at New Paltz is pleased to announce that four candidates have been invited to visit the New Paltz campus as presidential finalists. Three have accepted the invitation and the Committee is awaiting confirmation from a fourth candidate.
The dates of the visits and names of the confirmed candidates are below:
February 10-11: Dr. John Schreiber, M.D., MPH, Chairman, Department of Pediatrics, Tufts University School of Medicine and Chief Administrative Officer, Floating Hospital for Children at Tufts Medical Center, Boston, Massachusetts
February 14-15: Dr. Joe Gow, Chancellor (equivalent to Campus President), University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, La Crosse, Wisconsin
February 17-18: Dr. Mary Papazian, Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs, Lehman College, CUNY, Bronx, New York
February 21-22: Fourth candidate, pending confirmation in the next few days.
Copies of the candidates’ resumes are available on the Presidential Search Web site.
“In its quest during the last few months to find the best possible candidate to lead New Paltz, the Search Committee has carefully reviewed several dozen applications and narrowed a strong field of diverse candidates through confidential interviews,” said Kenneth J. Abt, Chair of the Search Committee and Chair of the New Paltz College Council. “The group has really done a tremendous job in serving the College in this critical task while juggling many other personal and professional obligations.”
During their two-day visits, the presidential finalists will meet with a variety of campus constituencies, including students, faculty, staff, administrators, community leaders, Foundation Board and alumni representatives and members of the College Council. The campus community will have the opportunity to attend open sessions where they can listen to and question each candidate. The Search Committee is interested in feedback about the candidates and will administer an online survey at the end of each candidate’s visit.
According to Abt, following the campus visits, the Search Committee will review campus feedback and meet with the College Council to discuss the qualifications of each finalist. The College Council will then deliberate and decide on the names of three candidates to forward to Chancellor Nancy Zimpher, per SUNY Guidelines for Presidential Searches.
After reviewing the candidates, Chancellor Zimpher will make a recommendation to the SUNY Board of Trustees for its consideration during its next scheduled meeting on March 22. The SUNY Board of Trustees makes the final appointment of a new president. The tentative start date for the new president at New Paltz is July 1.
