College Council schedules monthly meeting
NEW PALTZ – The College Council of the State University of New York at New Paltz will hold its monthly meeting at 1 p.m. on Thursday, February 24, in the College Terrace.
The Call to Order and Approval of Minutes will be given by College Council Chairman Kenneth J. Abt. This will be a joint meeting of the College Council and the Presidential Search Committee to discuss the three finalists for President.
SUNY New Paltz’s monthly College Council meetings are being Web cast over the Internet, in accordance with New York State Executive Order #3, which directs state agencies and public authorities to Web cast all public meetings subject to the Open Meetings Law. At SUNY New Paltz this impacts College Council meetings.
The majority of the meeting scheduled for February 24 is expected to be conducted in Executive Session. According to the New York State Open Meetings Law, public bodies are allowed to conduct business in Executive Session when it pertains to “the medical, financial, credit or employment history of a particular person or corporation, or matters leading to the appointment, employment, promotion, demotion, discipline, suspension, dismissal or removal of a particular person or corporation.”
According to the law, “upon a majority vote of its total membership, taken in an open meeting pursuant to a motion identifying the general area or areas of the subject or subjects to be considered, a public body may conduct an executive session” for specific enumerated purposes only. Pursuant to this provision, Executive Sessions are not open to the public and are not subject to Web cast.
Instructions for accessing the Web cast are available on the SUNY New Paltz Web site.
