Oswego Pulls Away in Second Half to Defeat Men’s Basketball
OSWEGO, NY- The Oswego State Lakers used a 27-9 run start the second half to pull away for the 70-54 win over the Hawks Tuesday night in the Max Ziel Gymnasium. Conor Monaghan finished the game with 20 points, eight of them during the run and had seven rebounds, four assists and three steals. Chad Burridge scored nine of his 15 points during the stretch and finished with six rebounds, three assists and four blocks on the night.
Jayquan Anderson led the Hawks with 15 points on 7-of-10 shooting and Shereef Taylor had 11 points, five rebounds and two blocks. Harris Wichard led the Hawks on the boards with seven and also added 10 points to his tally. Pete Carmel finished with nine points on 3-of-5 shooting and four rebounds.
The Lakers jumped out quickly to 17-2 advantage five and half minutes into the game. With five minutes, 49 seconds remaining in the half, the Hawks trailed 27-11 and a lay-up by Matt Devine sparked a 13-0 run to end the half and cut the Laker lead to 27-24 at the half. Carmel had five points during the stretch and Taylor had four on 4-of-4 from the free throw line. The Hawks held a slight edge in points in the paint, 14 to the Lakers 10 and 11 points to the Lakers five on points off turnovers.
The Hawks fall to 8-7 overall and 4-5 in the conference. The Hawks return to the court on Friday, January 29 against Potsdam at 8 p.m.
