Women’s Soccer Recap
NEW PALTZ, NY- The SUNY New Paltz women’s soccer team finished the season with a 5-8-5 overall record and 1-6-2 in the SUNYAC. The hawks were 2-3-2 at home, 1-5-3 on the road and 2-0-0 at neutral sites.
The Hawks won a share of the University of Rochester Tournament after beating King’s College 2-0 and tying University of Rochester in double overtime. The team also won a share of the Wellesley Tournament with a victory over Salem State and tying Wellesley in double overtime. Freshman Samantha Abravanel led the team in scoring with five goals and one assist for 11 team points. Three of Abravanel goals were game-winners. Emily Buckner led the team in assists with two and added one goal on the season.
Sarah Demarzo, Rebecca Devlin, Maggie Vasconi, Sheri Lajoie and Katie Oliver all tallied one goal on the season for the Hawks. Vanessa Rogers and Brittany Bennett each had one assist a piece.
Stephanie Vega was 4-5-3 overall in net and had six shutouts with 0.71 goal against average and 88 saves. Danielle Gura was 1-3-2 in net with two shutouts and had a 1.24 goals against average with 25 saves. The two of them combined to have goals against average of 0.89.
The Hawks will be losing one player from this years squad, senior Rebecca Kafko.
