2009 Men’s Soccer Recap

NEW PALTZ, NY- The SUNY New Paltz men’s soccer team finished the season with an overall record of 7-10-2 and 2-7-0 in the SUNYAC. New Paltz was 3-5-1 at home, 3-4-0 on the road and 1-1-1 on neutral sites.

James Altadonna (Massapequa Park/Massapequa) led the team in points last season and continued that success with 11 goals and two assists in the 2009 season. Three of his 11 goals were game-winners. Sophomore Tommy Garafola (Richmond Hill/St. Francis Prep) led the team in assists for the second straight year with eight. Garafola and Altadonna were both selected to the All-SUNYAC Second Team.

Dave Gardiner (Malta/Ballston Spa) a junior transfer from SUNY Cobleskill had an immediate presence up top. Gardiner scored four goals and had three assists finishing the season with 11 team points. Nick DiPaola (Huntington//Huntington) was the most effective freshman scoring four goals and had two assists finishing with 11 team points.

Michael Santalesa (New Hyde Park/St. Francis Prep) and Lucas Natel (Mineola/Mineola) each had two goals and five assists a piece on the season. Peter Carmel (Lake Ronkonkoma/The Stony Brook School) finished the season at 5-5-1 with one shutout and had a 1.78 goals against average in net. Tom Viscardi (Lake Ronkonkoma/Sachem North) was 2-5-1 with a 1.71 goals against average.

Seniors Anton Shipman (Howard Beach/Molloy) and Harper Jaroff (Old Westbury/The Wheatley School) played their final game for the Hawks against #7 RPI. Shipman is a two-time team MVP.
