New Paltz knocks off Vassar, Miller earns hat trick
NEW PALTZ– The SUNY New Paltz field hockey team defeated the Brewers of Vassar, by a score of 3-0, on Wednesday evening on the Turf Field.
The Hawks struck first in the 22nd minute with a goal from Stacey Miller (Lindenhurst) that went directly through the middle of the cage. In the 29th minute, Miller remained aggressive and scored with a pass off Kristen Bergmann (Massapequa).
A minute later, Miller earned her hat trick with a goal that was deflected off the Vassar goalkeeper off of Sarah Schloss’s (Brant Lake/North Warren) shot. The Hawks showed control and dominated the Vassar’s defenders in the first half, making the score 3-0 at the half.
In the 54th minute, Miller broke through the Vassar defense firing a shot, but was saved by the diving Vassar goalkeeper.
Elizabeth Dini (Sayville) showed promise in making three consecutive saves from the scrappy Vassar team. The Hawks were able to keep the momentum the rest of the contest, making it a final score of 3-0.
Vassar’s goalkeeper Rachel Clarkin-Breslin recorded the loss in net for the Brewers, allowing three goals on 11 shots and saving seven.
