Late Rally Falls Short Against #6 Cortland
CORTLAND, NY- A late rally by the Hawks against #6 Cortland falls short, as the Red Dragons hold on for the 5-3 victory in conference play.
Cortland netted the first goal just 38 seconds into the contest after Lauren Eichenberger caused a turnover and blasted a shot from the right side into the cage.
Danielle Hand gave the Red Dragons a 2-0 lead in the 12th minute after gathering the rebound off a saved shot. Just six minutes later, Brianna Yetsko received the pass from Hand on the left side of the post for the 3-0 lead.
In the 48th minute, the Red Dragons pushed the lead to 4-0 when Danielle Groneman backhanded a pass from Sam George.
The Hawks started the come back when Lauren Nicomini passed to Sarah Schloss on the right side of the cage to cut the lead to 4-1.
Groneman gave the Red Dragons the goal right back when the pass from Christine McCabe found Groneman on the right post for the goal.
Nicomini brought the Hawks within three at 5-2 off the penalty corner in the 65th minute. Two minutes later, Alyssa Finck sent a pass to the right post where Schloss was waiting for the goal.
Emily Von Schondorf allowed three goals and made one save in 21:19 minutes played. Ashley Hughes recorded the win in net, saving one shot in 48:41 minutes played. Cortland improves to 13-0 overall and 5-0 in the SUNYAC.
Elizabeth Dini recorded the loss in net, saving two shots and allowing three goals in 20:18 minutes played. Elizabeth Tong made seven saves and allowed two goals in 49:42 minutes played. New Paltz falls to 5-9 overall and 1-4 in the SUNYAC. The Hawks return to the field tomorrow against Oswego at 1 p.m. on the campus of Oswego State
