New Paltz Dominates Brockport; Snaps Seven Game Losing Streak in SUNYAC
NEW PALTZ- The SUNY New Paltz field hockey team defeated the Golden Eagles of Brockport, by a score of 6-0, on Friday afternoon on the Turf Field.
At 20:23, in the first half Sarah Schloss’s (Brant Lake/North Warren) shot was saved by the diving Brockport goalkeeper. New Paltz scored in the 20th minute when Alyssa Finck (Hudson/Ichabod Crane) found Schloss for the goal.
Minutes later, Caitlin Ryder (Hopewell Junction/John Jay) found Kristen Bergmann (Massapequa) with a pass to assist Bergmann for her sixth goal of the season.
Brockport threatened to score when they had a corner with seven minutes left in the half. New Paltz’s defense was able to clear it out to hold the 2-0 advantage at the half.
The Hawks struck first in the second half with a goal by Bergmann at 49:24. Bergmann earned her hat trick and her eighth goal on the season, with another one in the 56th minute assisted by Schloss.
Schloss would score her last two goals of the contest in the 57th and 62nd minute, earning her hat trick to seal the victory for New Paltz. Ryder and Amy Lee (Farmington, CT/Farmington) each added two assists for the Hawks, with Schloss and Finck adding one a piece.
Brockport’s goalkeeper Kasey Scheriner recorded the loss in net for the Golden Eagles. She allowed six goals on nine shots, saving one. Brockport falls to 1-4 overall and 0-1 in SUNYAC play.
Goalkeeper Elizabeth Tong (Woodstock/Onteora Central) recorded the win in net and earned her second career shutout. Tong saved one shot on the evening.
The Hawks improve to 3-2 overall and 1-0 in SUNYAC play. The Hawks return to the field tomorrow against Geneseo. Game time is set for 1:00 pm.
