College and local high school collaboration to be celebrated on July 30
NEW PALTZ – The School of Education at the State University of New York at New Paltz will host a graduation ceremony at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 30, in Lecture Center 100 for the Pine Bush High School students who completed the new Literacy and Education Academy program.
Fifty-one students from Pine Bush High School participated in the interactive and intensive four-week program, which was offered to students interested in pursuing careers in elementary and secondary education.
Upon completion, students will receive college credit for the course Multiple Voices in Education. The course was designed by Michael Smith, a lecturer in the Educational Studies Department at New Paltz, and was taught by Pine Bush educators. In addition to attending classes at the high school, the students also took part in special sessions led by Robert Michael, dean of the School of Education, and other educators and administrators from the region.
The July 30 graduation ceremony will recognize the students’ achievements and the inaugural year of the program.
