Coach Nelson and Wichard Head to Bosnia, Croatia and Italy with US Team
Coach Dagan Nelson, the head men’s basketball coach at SUNY New Paltz, will be heading to Bosnia, Croatia, and Italy from June 2-June 11th, 2009 to coach a US team. The team will be comprised of ten players. Chris Lanksbury of USA Athletes International is helping coordinate the trip. The team will play five games against foreign competition.
Harris Wichard will be making the trip with Coach Nelson. Wichard completed his first year for the Hawks and was named the 2008-09 most valuable player. Wichard appeared in all 25 games, making 21 starts and averaged 28.2 minutes per game. He led the team in scoring with 12.6 per contest, ranking him 16th in the conference. Wichard made 52 three pointers on the year, ranking him sixth in the SUNYAC as he finished the year shooting .382% from the arc. He shot .472% from the field on the season on his way to 315 points, 78 rebounds and 30 assists.
