Plattsburgh Softball Too Much for Hawks to Handle
The SUNY New Paltz softball team traveled to Plattsburgh Friday afternoon for a conference doubleheader and were dominated by the Cardinals 11-1 and 10-2. The Hawks return to action on Saturday when they face Potsdam at 1pm.
In game one, Justine Scutaro and Samantha Barra each went 1-2 with Barra driving in Scutaro with an RBI double in the fourth inning. Melyssa Cilmi went 1-1 and Courtney Costello took the loss on the mound as she allowed seven runs on six hits in two innings.
In game two, Cilmi went 2-2 and Scutaro and Elizabeth May each finished 1-3. Devon Kelly took the loss in four innings of work. The Hawks started strong scoring two runs early in the first inning. Cilmi singled to left and advanced to second on a successful bunt by May. Scutaro doubled to left field to score Cilmi and then May scored unearned on a throwing error for the 2-0 lead. Plattsburgh answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning and tallied eight runs in the fourth inning to complete the scoring.
