Morris and Reith Heading to Nationals

Sophomores Marissa Morris (Toms River, NJ/Toms River East) and Christine Reith (Penfield, NY/Webster) have qualified to participate in the 2009 NCAA Division III Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships. The championship will take place March 18-21 at the University Aquatic Center on the campus of the University of Minnesota, hosted by Macalester College.
Morris and Reith are the third and fourth swimmers to qualify individually for the NCAA championships this decade. They follow in the footsteps of Joanna Masterson (05, 06) and Michelle Coombs (07, 08). This is the fifth consecutive year New Paltz has been represented at the meet, including a 16th place finish in 2007 and a 17th place finish in 2008.
Rieth qualified in the 100 freestyle with a seed time of 52.01 and will also swim the 50 free (24.04) and the 200 free (1:55.88). She is returns to the national stage after qualifying in the 200 medley relay a year ago. Reith was the SUNYAC champion in the 50 freestyle and finished second in the 100 free.
Morris will be making her first appearance at nationals as she qualified in the 200 freestyle with a cut time of 1:53.10. She will also swim the 500 free (5:05.47) and the 200 backstroke (2:08.48). At SUNYACs, Morris finished second in the 500 free setting a new varsity record and took second in the 200 free and third in the 200 back.
