Hawks hold Morrisville State to a school record 13 points
NEW PALTZ, NY- The SUNY New Paltz women’s basketball team cruised to the easy win over conference opponent Morrisville State, 76-13, Friday night in the Hawk Center.
In the first half, the Hawks defense forced 24 turnovers and held the Mustangs to a school record for fewest points allowed (four points) in the first half on 1-of-17 shooting. The Hawks led 36-4 at the half.
The Hawks were led by freshman guard Zoe Cohen (Brooklyn, NY/Berkeley Carroll School) with eight points and two steals. Junior guard Nicole Sarcone (Staten Island, NY/Notre Dame Academy) chipped in with four points, five assists and two steals.
The Mustangs were led by Sydney Pajack with four points and Courtney Terzi and Asha White each had four rebounds in for the Mustangs in the first half.
In the second half, the Hawks continued to cruise as they outscored the Mustangs 40-9. The Hawks defense forced 22 turnovers and 46 for the game. The Hawks were led by freshman guard Cohen with a game and career high 15 points and five rebounds. Artie Williams (Newburgh, NY/Newburgh Free Academy) also had 15 points and five steals. Kaitlin Clifford (Staten Island, NY/Curtis) added 12 points.
The Mustangs were led by Pajack with four points and White and Carmen Velazquez each added three points in the efforts, White also had eight steals. Caroline Francis had a game high eight rebounds for the Mustangs. Morrisville State falls to 1-7 overall and 0-4 in SUNYAC competition.
The Hawks improve to 8-3 overall and 4-0 in SUNYAC competition. The Hawks return to the court tomorrow against SUNY Geneseo at 6 p.m. in the Hawk Center.
