Hawks can’t find rhythm in 90-75 loss to Stevens
HOBOKEN, NJ- The SUNY New Paltz women’s basketball team fell to host Stevens Wednesday night, 90-75, in Walker Gymnasium.
In the first half, the Hawks and Ducks battled back and forth to a 16-16 tie. With 9:39 remaining in the half the Ducks went on a 13-0 run in three minutes to take a 29-16 lead and would hold 40-33 advantage at the half.
The Hawks were led by freshman guard Caitlin Irwin (Brooklyn, NY/Bishop Kearney) with ten points and sophomore forward Artie Williams (Newburgh, NY/Newburgh Free Academy) chipped in with eight points.
The Ducks were led by Sarah Gehring with 16 points and Dani Dudek added five points and seven assists.
In the second half the Hawks just could not get anything going. They came within six points, but that is as close as they would come to the Ducks. Dudek finished the game with a game high 24 points, 19 in the second half, 11 assists and five steals. Gehring added 22 points and seven rebounds and Paige Armstrong chipped in with 12 points and seven rebounds. The Ducks improve to 9-2 overall.
Irwin finished the game with a team high 22 points, three assists and four steals. Williams added 16 points and Maggie Farrell (Hillsdale, NY/Immaculate) chipped in with eight points, a game high nine rebounds and four assists. The Hawks fall to 7-3 overall and 3-0 in SUNYAC competition.
The Hawks return to the court Friday at 6 p.m. against conference opponent Morrisville State in the Hawk Center.
