Geneseo Sweeps the Hawk Swimmers
The men’s and women’s swim teams hosted the Geneseo Thursday afternoon and were swept by the Blue Wave. The women lost 143-117 while the men fell 131.5-116.5.
The women’s team started off strong with a first place finish in the 200 medley relay of Marissa Morris, Becky Baker, Erica Ellis and Christine Rieth who posted a time of 1:55.32. Morris and Rieth combined with Allison Wells and Samantha Graham to win the 400 free relay in 3:44.70.
Rieth was one of three individual winners for the Hawks as she won the 50 free in 25.58, out-touching Geneseo’s Katie Linehan who finished in 25.68. Rieth finished second in the 100 free (54.60). Jessica Lester and Melinda Pullen finished one-two in the 1650 in 18:42.67 and 18:48.64, respectively. Senior Joelle Hopf was the final lone winner for the Hawks as she claimed the 100 breaststroke in 1:10.50. She finished second in the 200 breast (2:31.10) and Lester took second in the 200 back (2:18.30). Senior Erica Ellis took second in the 200 fly (2:21.41), the 100 fly (1:03.20) and the 200 IM (2:21.20).
On the men’s side Stephen Cozzolongo was the lone winner for the Hawks as he claimed the 100 fly in 54.10. He touched second in the 100 back (55.14). Sophomore Dave Gardner finished second in the 50 free (22.67) just missing the first place mark of 22.64, and he tied for second in the 100 free (49.92). First year Pete Nastasti finished second in the 500 free (5:03.40) and took third in the 1650 (17:31.30). The men’s 200 medley relay of Cozzolongo, Rob Webb, Gardner and Billy Papetti finished second (1:40.57) as Geneseo took first in 1:40.23. Papetti and Gardner teamed up with Pat Rathbun and Zack Lowenstein for a second place finish in the 400 free relay (3:26.50).
The men will return to action on Saturday January 17 at the RPI Invitational at 12pm and both teams will return to the pool on Monday January 19th when they travel to Stevens for a 1pm meet.
