Swimming Splits with Rowan
The SUNY New Paltz women’s swim team defeated Rowan, 143-119, on Saturday. The Rowan men topped New Paltz, 148-114.
The New Paltz women won the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:54.24. The team consisted of Samantha Graham, Becky Baker, Erica Ellis and Christine Rieth. The Hawks also took first place in the 400 freestyle relay (3:44.09) with Allison Wells, Marissa Morris, Jessica Lester and Rieth.
Rieth was a double winner, capturing the 50 free (25.19) and the 100 free (54.48). Senior Joelle Hopf dominated the 200 breaststroke (2:29.00), beating the competition by nine seconds. Erica Ellis won the 200 butterfly, took second in the 100 fly (1:02.59) and second in the 200 IM (2:18.21). Lester captured first place in the 1000 freestyle (11:06.43) and finished second in the 200 backstroke (2:17.30). Morris was second (2:02.01) in the 200 free and the 500 free (5:25.89) and Tiffany Sorrell took second (1:04.79) in the 100 backstroke.
For the men, junior Stephen Cozzolongo won the 100 backstroke (55.17) and 200 backstroke (2:02.02), while finishing second in the 200 IM (2:05.35). First year Pete Nastasi captured first place in the 500 freestyle (4:58.61) and took second in the 1000 free (10:21.72). Sophomore Dave Gardner was the winner in the 50 free (22.09) and touched second in the 100 free (48.91) and the 200 free (1:50.40).
New Paltz hosts Vassar College on Saturday, November 22 at 1 p.m.
