Swimming Splits with Hartwick
The men’s and women’s swim teams opened their season today with a split against the Hartwick Hawks. The women won 108-97 while the men lost 119.5-85.5.
On the women’s side, Jessica Lester and Christine Rieth were double winners and a part of a winning relay. Lester won the 1000 free (11:01) and the 500 free (5:24.90) while Rieth claimed the 50 Free (25.75) and the 100 free (55.43). The two teamed with Allison Wells and Marissa Morris to win the 200 free relay in 1:41.49.
Morris won the 200 free (2:01.90) and finished second in the 500 free (5:26.44). Senior Joelle Hopf finished first in the 100 breast (1:09.43) and Becky Baker touched second in 1:11.31.
Dave Gardner led the men with two first place finishes. He finished first in the 100 free (49.41) and the 200 free (1:50.07). Gardner teamed up with Pat Rathbun, Billy Papetti, and Matt Demerest to win the 200 free relay in 1:29.52. Junior Stephen Cozzolongo was the only other individual winner for the men with a first place finish in the 100 backstroke (55.06).
New Paltz will compete on Saturday November 1st at the Union Relays.
