SUNY Geneseo too much for New Paltz field hockey
NEW PALTZ, NY- The SUNY Geneseo field hockey team defeated New Paltz by the score of 4-1 on Saturday afternoon.
Geneseo struck first in the 11th minute, when Stephanie Maisonet deflected in a shot from Sarah Doster, to give the Knights the 1-0 lead.
New Paltz came right back forty-eight seconds later and tied the contest at 1-1, when Sarah Schloss (Brant Lake, NY/North Warren) dribbled through the defense and took the shot to beat the goalie left corner.
Geneseo regained the lead in the 15th minute when Erin Zalewski passed to Stephanie Honsinger and her shot beat the goalie left corner. Geneseo led at the half 2-1.
Geneseo scored at the 48th minute, when Doster shot from the top of the circle, to give the Knights the 3-1 advantage. Doster assisted on the last goal when her shot was deflected in by Abby Sayler for the 4-1 lead.
SUNY Geneseo out shot New Paltz 10-4 on the afternoon.
Grace Watson (Bayville, NY/Locust Valley) recorded the loss in 59:38 minutes of play, tallying five saves. Elizabeth Tong (Woodstock, NY/Onteora) played the remainder of the game and tallied one save. New Paltz falls to 1-6 overall and 0-4 in SUNYAC competition.
SUNY Geneseo improves to 4-3 overall and 3-0 in SUNYAC competition.
New Paltz returns to the field Friday October 3rd at Skidmore, 4 p.m. start time
