New Paltz women’s soccer scores 44 seconds into OT to win

NEW PALTZ, NY- The SUNY New Paltz women’s soccer team scored 44 seconds into overtime to win the game 2-1 over Manhattanville Wednesday evening.

At the 20th minute in the first half Elana Jaroff (Old Westbury, NY/The Wheatley School) dribbled into the defense and was taken down in the box for a penalty kick.  Jennifer Anselmi (North Rockland, NY/North Rockland) took the penalty kick and beat the goalie bottom right corner to give the Hawks the early 1-0 lead.  Jaroff finished the game with nine shots, five of which were on goal.

In the second half the Hawks had the chance to put away Manhattanville, but goalkeeper Ali Bromson made a great save on a Jaroff shot that deflected off the goalies hand off the post and the rebound attempt by Emily Buckner (Pine Bush, NY/Pine Bush) was also saved by Bromson, to keep the game at 1-0.

In the 66th minute, Manhattanville struck when Cybil Robinson crossed the ball and found Holly Nonis on the header for the game tying goal.  In the 83rd minute, Manhattanville had the chance to take the lead off a corner when Robinson took a shot that beat the Hawks goalie, but Buckner was there to kick the ball out to keep the game tied at 1-1.

Minutes later the Hawks Jaroff took a shot from 16 yards out that Bromson made a great save to send the game into overtime.

Forty-four seconds into the overtime, Vanessa Rogers (Otisville, NY/Minisink Valley) crossed the ball to Kate Addiss (Amherst, NY/Amherst) for the header to give the Hawks the 2-1 victory in overtime.

The Hawks out shot Manhattanville 24-10 on the evening.

Sarah Boccard (Washingtonville, NY/Washingtonville) made four saves in goal for the victory.  SUNY New Paltz improves to 3-4 overall, 0-1 in SUNYAC competition.

Bromson tallied 14 saves in the loss and Manhattanville falls to 3-6 overall.

New Paltz returns to the field Friday September 26 at Fredonia at 4 p.m.
