Softball Defeats Oswego to Advance in SUNYACs
PLATTSBURGH, NY — The softball team played Oswego in a win or go home consolation game this afternoon at SUNYACs and defeated the Lakers 8-0 in five innings. With the win, New Paltz will return to action on Friday May 2nd when they play at 1pm against Buffalo State.
Senior Michelle Reinke earned teh win on the mound allowing two hits and striking out seven batters in five innings. Sophomore Dale Cornelius was 3-for-3 with four RBI, including a two run homer. Mel Cilmi was 2-for-4 and Elizabeth May had three RBI.
New Paltz took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on the homerun by Cornelius who hit home Motzkin who was walked. The Hawks extended their lead to 6-0 in the second inning as they plated four runs on five hits. Erin Fitzpatrick singled and advanced to third on a single by Amalia DiTrapani. Brittany O’Hara had an RBI single bunt to bring in Fitzpatrick. Cilmi loaded the bases with a single. May was walked to keep bases loaded and score one run. With two outs and bases loaded, Cornelius and a two run RBI single.
The Hawks completed the scoring in the third inning with two hits and two runs. With two outs and runners on first and second, May hit a two run RBI double to right center.
