Softball Sweeps Morrisville; Motzkin Becomes All-Time Hit Leader
MORRISVILLE, NY — The softball team traveled to Morrisville this afternoon for a SUNYAC doubleheader and swept the Mustangs 6-0, 10-2. The Hawks advance to 18-14 on the season and 9-7 in conference play.
In game one, senior Lauren Motzkin’s RBI double in the first inning made her the all-time career leader for hits. New Paltz tallied two runs in the second, two in the fifth and completed the scoring with one run in the sixth inning. Amalia DiTrapani was 4-4 and Erin Fitzpatrick was 3-for-4 from the plate with two RBIs. First year Courtney Costello went the distance on the mound, allowing only two hits in seven innings.
In game two, New Paltz plated six runs in the third inning en route to the 10-2 five inning final. Motzkin went 4-4 from the plate to lead the Hawks, while Mel Cilmi and Elizabeth Tong each registered two hits. Sophomore Molly Squires earned the win allowing five hits, two runs and one walk in 3.2 innings.
New Paltz will returns to action tomorrow when they host SUNYIT in a doubleheader at 1pm.
