Potter Ties Season Win Record as Hawks Defeat Vassar
POUGHKEEPSIE, NY — SUNY New Paltz senior pitcher Zachary Potter tossed a complete game, allowing two hits in leading the Hawks to a 4-2 win over Vassar in a non-conference baseball game on Wednesday afternoon. Potter went nine full innings, striking out 13 Brewer hitters in winning his seventh game of the season, tying the single season win record from the mound.
Vassar took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning before New Paltz answered in the top of the second. Loading the bases on a walk and a pair of bunt base hits, Tyler Terlekcy was hit home by senior Robert Helf. The Hawks totaled three hits, including two doubles by seniors Neal Rosengren and Kevin Paino, and plated two runs to take a 3-1 lead in the third inning. Vassar cut the lead to 3-2 in the fifth inning and New Paltz added an unearned insurance run in the eighth inning when senior Doug Chaputian led off with a single and scored on a throwing error.
Chaputian was 3-of-4 from the plate and senior Jesse Marsh was 2-of-5 as the Hawks collected ten hits on the day. New Paltz completes their season at 21-19.
