Motzkin Breaks Season Hit Record as Hawks Shut Out Russell Sage
Senior Lauren Motzkin totaled four hits on the day to become the all-time season recorder holder for hits with 51 as the softball team defeated Russell Sage 12-0, 6-0. Motzkin passed Rosangela Diaz’s record of 48 hits set in 1998. New Paltz advances to 21-15 on the season, setting a school record for most wins in a season with 21. The old record was 20 set in 1999. The Hawks will return to action this weekend when they travel to Geneseo on Friday and Brockport on Saturday to complete their SUNYAC schedule.
Senior Michelle Reinke threw a one hitter while striking out five batters and walking one in the first game. Motzkin and Erin Fitzpatrick were each 2-for-3 with two RBI.
First year Courtney Costello earned the win in the second game, allowing two hits and striking out four. Amalia DiTrapani was 3-4, Motzkin was 2-4 including a three run homer and Mel Cilmi and Justine Scutaro each added two hits.
