Women’s Basketball Falls to Oneonta in 2OT
NEW PALTZ, NY — Down by four at 60-56 with seven seconds left, sophomore Kristen Caban hit a three to cut the deficit to one. Oneonta’s Shannon Weir sank both free throws with six seconds left to increase the lead to three. The Hawks drove down the floor and ran a play for Caban, who shot a three pointer at the buzzer that bounced off the back of the iron for the 62-59 double overtime final.
In regulation the game was tied at 46-46 with 52 second left when Oneonta’s Sara Chrystie made a layup to go up by two. Senior Amber Sohns drove the lane 23 seconds later and tied the game on pull up jump shot, forcing the overtime.
In the first overtime session the Red Dragons went up by three with 2:28 left and again Sohns hit the tying shot, netting a three pointer with 1:14 left, to force the second overtime.
Caban finished with 17 points, tying her career high, including 5-10 from the arc. Senior Sarah Salvo chipped in with 11 points and Sohns scored nine points.
The Hawks will return to action on Tuesday, when they host a first round SUNYAC playoff game at 7:00 pm.
