Coombs Earns National Collegiate Swimmer of the Week for Division III

NEW PALTZ, NY — Michelle Coombs was named the National Collegiate Swimmer of the Week for Division III. She was selected based on her performance from February 4, 2008 – February 10, 2008 by a panel of collegiate coaches and nominated by coaches, sports information directors, conference representatives and CollegeSwimming.com staffers.
Coombs led the Hawks to a second place finish at the SUNYAC Championships. The Hawks finished with 607 points, behind Geneseo’s 801 points. Coombs was named the Outstanding Female Swimmer of the meet at the SUNYAC Championships after winning three individual events, and two relays. She won the 50 (23.72), 100 (51.83) and 200 (1:53.14) freestyle, making a national Acut time in the 200 free. Coombs and was part of the winning 200 medley relay (1:46.94) and the 400 medley relay (3:58.89). In addition, she was part of the 200 free relay (1:36.72) and the 400 free relay (3:33.51) which finished second. All four of the relays set new varsity records and the 200 medley relay set a SUNYAC meet and conference record in a national Acut time. Coombs was named to the All-Conference first team for her performance.
