Williams Leads Hawks with Double-Double Against Union

NEW PALTZ, NY — First year Artie Williams posted a game hight 11 points, 11 rebounds to lead the Hawks to a 69-49 win over Union. She shot 5-11 from the floor, with five offense boards and six on the defensive end. Sophomore Kristen Caban finished with nine points, hitting 3-4 from the arc and hauled down six rebounds. Senior Amber Sohns chipped in with eight points and Nicole Sarcone dished out six assists.
"We came out very aggressive to start the game, which gave us a cushion to work with considering our flat start in the second half," stated New Paltz Coach Jamie Seward. "Abbie DeRossi, ToniMarie Caserta and Sarah Salvo played some valuable minutes off the bench, providing a lift the team when needed. Our depth ultimately wore them down and Kristen Caban did a great job marking Maria Tobin, which was a key factor in holding them to less than 50 points"
New Paltz jumped out to an early 11-0 start before Union took to the board on a layup by Michelle Rogers. The Hawks held a double digit lead for most of the half, until Union brought the game to within seven at 26-19 at 4:42 before the intermission score of 35-23.
In the second half, New Paltz opened with a three from Caban before Union outscored the Hawks 15-3 for a four point game. That’s as close as the Dutchwomen would come before New Paltz regained control resuming their double digit lead.
The Hawks return to the court next weekend when they travel to Oswego on Friday at 6:00 pm, followed by Morrisville on Saturday at 2:00 pm.
