NORWICH, VT — The women’s basketball team traveled to Norwich tonight and fought back to claim a 68-58 win. The Hawks trailed by ten early in the game before a 13-0 run gave them their first lead of the game with 11:30 remaining in the first stanza. New Paltz was up 28-18 at 7:29 before Norwich was unstoppable and ended the half on an 18-0 run for the 36-28 intermission score.
In the second half, New Paltz evened the game at 43-43 with 13 minutes left in regulation, and proceeded to go on a 15-0 run and never look back. The Hawks held a slim 44-40 rebound edge but were out shot 39.7% to 37%.
"We were fortunate to get a win tonight, despite playing flat," New Paltz head coach Jamie Seward said. "We need to play much better on Friday if we want a win against Geneseo."
First year Artie Williams led the Hawks with 16 points on 7-13 from the field and hauled down nine rebounds. Senior Amber Sohns and sophomore Kristen Caban each chipped in with 11 points, while sophomore Maggie Farrell finished with nine points and four steals.
New Paltz (3-3) returns to action on Friday when they host their home opener against Geneseo (1-5) at 6:00 pm.
