Nelson Scores 27 as Men’s Basketball Falls to Nazareth
ROCHESTER, NY — Kyle Nelson scored 27 points and grabbed a team high eight boards on his way to earning All-Tournament honors but it wasn’t enough as the Hawks fell 88-71 to Nazareth on day two of the annual Chuck Resler Tournament hosted by the University of Rochester.
Three other New Paltz players scored in double digits – Lee Bertram with 14 points, Matt Hauswer with 12 points and Victor Alvarez with 10. The Hawks trailed 42-22 at the break. New Paltz came out much stronger in the second half, shooting 21-30 for 70 percent, but couldn’t break Nazareth’s double-digit advantage. The Golden Flyers out-rebounded the Hawks 40-28 and made 20-26 from the foul line, compared to New Paltz who made four of six opportunities from the charity stripe.
New Paltz returns to action on Tuesday when they travel to Old Westbury for a 7:30 pm non-conference match-up.
