Trunkes Takes Over Cross Country Program
NEW PALTZ, NY — SUNY New Paltz Director of Athletics, Stuart Robinson, has announced the hiring of Mr. Michael Trunkes as the new head men’s and women’s cross country coach. Trunkes takes over the program after serving as the assistant coach in the 2006 season.
"We are excited about Mike taking over our program because of his experience as an athlete and a coach. In the time that he has been with our program, he has been able to tap into his personal experiences to help our student-athletes develop as runners. Recognizing the amazing opportunities that our area provides for runners, Mike looks forward to making our program a strong one within SUNYAC and ultimately regionally and nationally,” stated Robinson.
Trunkes is the director, creator and owner of Total Immersion Triathlon, where he sets up beginner triathlon camps in both local and remote areas. He also serves as the senior swim instructor for Total Immersion where he continually is further developing the techniques and methods of swimming.
He has been a member of the Central Park Track Club for 20 years and in 2006, he finished eighth in the 10,000 meters at the World Masters Track and Field Championships.
Trunkes earned a Bachelors degree in Merchandising and Marketing from The University of Arizona in 1985. He was a member the 1985 Runner-up Division I Cross Country Nationals Team and was part of the Pac 10 Cross Country Championship Team.
