Student marketing association receives distinguished national award

NEW PALTZ — The State University of New York at New Paltz American Marketing Association was one of four chapters that received the Distinguished Collegiate Award and placed eighth overall at the 29th American Marketing Association’s Annual Collegiate Conference in New Orleans from March 28-April 1.

The conference was attended by 1,200 students and 80 faculty advisors from chapters across the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico. Of the approximately 400 AMA international chapters, 128 qualified to compete for awards.

Representing the New Paltz AMA chapter were faculty advisor, professor Ted Clark of the School of Business; AMA President, Gina Marotta; Executive Vice President, Matt Mangus; Vice President of Communications, Kaitlyn Hubert; Vice President of Promotions, Brittany Miller; Vice President of Publicity, Dan Teich; Vice President of Marketing Research, Lauren Macri; Vice President of Careers, Lauren Benjamin; Vice President of Membership, Michelle Falco; and Vice President of Fundraising, Kurt Fredericks.

The colleges were judged on the quality of their strategic marketing plan and report. The plan is a 10-page document outlining what they intended to accomplish and the report is a 20-page document of what they accomplished in regard to community service, marketing week programs, chapter planning, fundraising, communications and student professional development.

“The award as Distinguished Collegiate Chapter of the year is especially noteworthy given that New Paltz was the smallest school in the top eight and defeated such schools as Florida University, Bowling Green, Duquesne, University of South Carolina, Texas A&M and Temple University,” said Clark.

The American Marketing Association is a student association of the School of Business.

“We are very proud of our students and of Ted Clark, their advisor,” said Hadi Salivitabar, dean of the School of Business. “Their achievement in New Orleans shows the quality of education students receive at our school.”
