Softball Sweeps Russell Sage 11-3, 15-9
NEW PALTZ, NY — The SUNY New Paltz Softball Team swept Russell Sage in a non-conference match-up this afternoon. After Russell Sage jumped out to an early 3-1 lead, the Hawks scored seven runs in the fourth inning to seal the victory. First-year Erin Fitzpatrick lead the offensive charge with three singles and a double at the plate. junior captain Amalia DiTrapani collected three hits, while junior captain Lauren Motzkin and first-year Elizabeth May both tripled. Michelle Reinke came on in relief and picked up the win for the Hawks allowing three hits while striking out six.
In the second game, junior Joelle Von Bischoffshausen earned her first collegiate victory on the mound for the Hawks. Erin Fitzpatrick stayed hot at the plate blasting a three-run home run in the second inning. First-year Dale Cornelius was four for five at the plate with two singles, a triple, and a two-run homerun. Junior Lauren Motzkin and first-year Melyssa Cilmi both added three singles while junior Allison Ferullo had two hits.
New Paltz travels to Plattsburgh State for a SUNYAC Conference doubleheader on Friday.
