New Paltz Comes up Short to Oneonta
ONEONTA, NY — The SUNY New Paltz men’s basketball team traveled to Oneonta tonight and fell to the Red Dragons, 79-69. With the loss the Hawks drop to 10-13 on the season and 3-11 in SUNYAC play.
New Paltz trailed early, not hitting their first basket until 14:12 of the first on a layup by John Hauser to make the score 11-2. The Red Dragons led 50-28 at the half, which would prove to be a big enough lead to overcome. In the second half the Hawks trailed 60-41 with 14:11 remaining, before going on a 10-0 run to cut the lead to nine with 6:39 left. New Paltz would pull to within eight at 74-66, but come no closer.
The Hawks had four players in double figures, led by John Hauser with 24 points. Tony Cannon chipped in with 15 points on six of nine from the floor and grabbed nine rebounds. Amseshem Foluke-Henderson finished with 13 points and Matt Irwin added 12 points.
SUNY New Paltz will return to action this weekend when they host their final regular season contests. The Hawks face Potsdam on Friday at 8 p.m. and Plattsburgh on Saturday at 4 p.m.
