Men’s Volleyball Defeats New Haven, 3-1
WEST HAVEN, CT — Christopher Holden had 21 kills on .455 hitting to lead the SUNY New Paltz men’s volleyball team to a 3-1 victory over the University of New Haven at Charger Gymnasium on Friday evening. The Hawks prevailed by scores of 30-27, 26-30, 30-28 and 30-28.
New Paltz improves to 3-3 this season with the victory, and they handed the Chargers (2-1) their first loss this season.
Holden was one of four New Paltz players with double-figure kill totals. Joshua Spiro had 11 kills on .375 hitting, and Alex Jackson had 10 kills on .381 hitting. Jeff Lee had 10 kills and eight digs, while Matt Weingarten had a match-high 51 assists.
For the Chargers, it was junior Drew Kirkeby leading the way with 24 kills on .348 hitting despite playing with an upset stomach. Chris Lennon had 18 kills on .324 hitting and added eight digs, while Tommy Musto had 11 digs and six kills.
Setter Kevin Goncalves had 48 assists, seven kills and five block assists.
The Hawks return to action Saturday afternoon when they travel to Ramapo to play the Roadrunners at 12 p.m. and then face off against Polytechnic Institute at 2 p.m.
