Hawks Fall to Oneonta, 58-51
ONEONTA, NY — The SUNY New Paltz Hawks traveled to Oneonta tonight to take on the Red Dragons in a SUNYAC contest. At the half the Hawks trailed 22-21. The game started with a 4-0 lead for New Paltz at 16:42 before the Red Dragons went on a 12-0. The Hawks battled back and took the lead at 19-18 before Oneonta took the lead at half on two free throws by Sara Chrystie.
In the second half the last tie of the game came at 15:31 with the score even at 30. The Red Dragons controlled the rest of the game and took their largest lead at 51-41 with 1:39 remaining. Despite outrebounding the Red Dragons 43-32, the Hawks turned the ball over 26 times and couldn’t over the deficit.
Junior Amber Sohns led the Hawks with 16 points, and a game high 10 rebounds. First year Nicole Sarcone finished with 10 points and Kerri Kelty scored nine points and grabbed five boards.
The Hawks fall to 14-9 on the season and 8-6 in conference play. SUNY New Paltz will return to action this weekend when they host their final regular season home games. The Hawks will face Potsdam on Friday at 6 p.m. and Plattsburgh on Saturday at 2 p.m.
