Hawks Come Up Short Against Cardinals
NEW PALTZ, NY — The SUNY New Paltz men’s basketball team hosted the Plattsburgh Cardinals Saturday afternoon and fell short in the final minutes, 71-66. With the loss the Hawks complete the regular season at 11-14 and 4-12 in the conference.
New Paltz took a 12 point lead with 5:46 left in the first before the Cardinals battled back to close the half at 37-35, Hawk advantage. The lead changed three times in the second with the last tie coming at 66-66 with 2:22 remaining on a Tony Cannon layup, but that would be it for the Hawks. Plattsburgh went on to hit three of their next four free throw attempts for the three point lead. Senior Matt Irwin managed to get a shot off with seven seconds left but fell short and Antwane Miller came up with the defensive board. Anthony Miller hit his final two free throw attempts to end the game.
Amseshem Foluke-Henderson led the Hawks with 18 points and John Hauser finished with 15 points. Cannon chipped in with 10 points, five boards, five assists and four steals. Matt Hauser scored nine points and Irwin collected seven boards and dished out seven assists.
Before the game, seniors Foluke-Henderson, Irwin and Hauser were honored for their contribution to the men’s basketball program.
