Hawks Claim 68-59 Win Over SUNYIT
NEW PALTZ, NY — The SUNY New Paltz women’s basketball team hosted the SUNYIT Wildcats Friday night and came away with a 68-59 victory to remain undefeated in SUNYAC play. The Hawks improve to 10-3 on the season and 6-0 in conference play, while the Wildcats drop to 3-12 and 0-7.
New Paltz led 19-11 with 7:03 left in the first half before SUNYIT went on a 10-0 run, keyed by Stacey Phelps who hit three buckets from behind the arc. Nicole Sarcone and Sarah Salvo each hit a shot to close out the half down by two, 26-24.
The second half saw the game tied four different times before New Paltz took the lead for good at the 9:32 on a three pointer by Kristen Jackson. SUNYIT was within two at 5:57, 53-51, before the Hawks went on a 10-2 run to open up the game.
Amber Sohns led the way for the Hawks with a career high 20 points and 11 rebounds. First year Carly Minehan chipped in with a career high 16 points, seven boards and five steals. Nicole Sarcone finished with nine points.
SUNY New Paltz returns to action tomorrow night when they host the Geneseo Blue Knights at 6 pm.
