2006 Tennis Season Recap
NEW PALTZ, NY — In 2006, the team finished the dual match season with a record of 6-2. The Hawks capped their campaign by capturing their second SUNYAC title in five years, and Coach Rob Bruley was named SUNYAC Coach of the Year for the third time. The women’s tennis team became the first women’s program at SUNY New Paltz to reach an NCAA Tournament, which they will participate in during the spring of 2007. The team claimed their first dual match victory over Cortland in the history of the tennis program. At the SUNYAC Championships, sophomore Dana Lim captured the first singles title and won 4-2 matches on the season to lead the Hawks. Junior Eri Yamakawa joined Lim as a SUNYAC titlist by winning second singles, going 5-3 on the year. Senior Jennifer Larson claimed the fourth singles title at SUNYACs and went 4-0 on the year. First year Kerri Serkes went 3-2 at sixth singles and won the SUNYAC title. The second doubles tandem of Katherine Ketgian and Larson won the SUNYAC title and won 4-2 matches on the season. The third doubles duo of Laura-Elizabeth Beirne and Lyndsey Lovinger went 2-2 on the season and won the SUNYAC title. Beirne played third singles all year and went 2-3 while Ketigian finished the season 3-2 at fifth singles.
