SUNYAC Pool Play Hosted by New Paltz – Hawks Clinch East Division title

NEW PALTZ, NY — SUNY New Paltz hosted the East Division second round of the SUNYAC Pool Play on October 20-21 at the Athletic and Wellness center. The Hawks were joined by Cortland, Oneonta, Plattsburgh, Potsdam, and SUNYIT. New Paltz clinched the SUNYAC East title for the first time in school history with a 9-1 SUNYAC record.

SUNYAC Pool Play – East Division
October 21, 2006

Potsdam defeats Plattsburgh 30-21, 30-12, 30-12

The Bears were led by junior Jamie Kraus who recorded 12 kills. First year Julia Vint collected 11 kills and 17 digs. Jillian Coon finished with nine kills as Sarah Cunningham dished out 34 assists for the Bears.
Plattsburgh was led by Lindsey Wilfore with four kills and 11 digs. Becky Alvord totaled five kills as Karen Christian-Acero recorded four. Susan Bodkin haned out 17 assists.

Cortland defeats SUNYIT 30-12, 30-14, 30-10
The Red Dragons were led by Catherine Chave (Manhassett, NY/St. Anthony’s) with 13 kills. Sarah Kemak (Whitney Point, NY) and Haleigh Muka (Lansing, NY) totaled seven kills each for Cortland. Theresa Cole (Syracuse, NY/West Genesee) finished with five kills on seven attempts for a .714 percentage, and handed out 28 assists.
The Wildcats were led by Kim Oertel (Red Hook, NY) with four kills on eight attempts. Hillary Pundt (Skaneateles, NY) recored three kills and 11 digs as Michelle Nozkowski (Chester, NY) dished out six assists, four digs and tallied two service aces.

New Paltz defeats Oneonta 30-19, 30-19, 30-25

The Hawks remained unbeaten in the SUNYAC with a 3-0 showing against the Red Dragons. New Paltz collected just three total hitting errors in the match, two of which came from the back row. The Hawks had three players hit in double figures as senior Kim Clouston led the way with 13 kills. Classmate Franchesca Rodriguez recorded 12 kills and first year Brittany Colye added 10. Senior Kate Roche finished with seven kills and nine blocks as Katie Becofsky handed out 37 assists.
Sophomore Courtney Wavercak led the Red Dragons with seven kills. Kristen Bennett chipped in with five kills and Jessica Ptasnick finished with 21 assists and 13 digs.

Cortland defeats Plattsburgh 30-20, 30-10, 30-17
First year Michelle Gaufman led Cortland with 10 kills on 13 attempts for a .769 hitting percentage. Tiffany Chatman and Kelsey Muka each added nine kills with Muka picking up seven digs. Brittney Horton finished with 37 assists.
The Cardinals were led by Lindsey Wilfore with eight kills and nine digs. Becky Alvord finished with six kills and eight digs as Susan Bodkin dished out 16 assists.

Potsdam defeats Oneonta 30-23, 30-14, 30-20
Jamie Kraus led the way for the Bears with 13 kills and three blocks. Julia Vint finished with 10 kills and 11 digs as Sarah Cunningham dished out 26 assists.
Oneonta was led by Sarah Zimmermann with eight kills and six digs. Caity Welch added five kills for the Red Dragons while Jessica Ptasnick handed out 13 assists.

Potsdam defeats SUNYIT 30-13, 30-9, 30-12
Meghan Welcher led the Bears with nine kills and four service aces as Potsdam finished pool play with an overall SUNYAC record of 5-5. Alyson Nerney and Jamie Kraus each added six kills apiece for the Bears as Sarah Cunningham handed out 23 assists.
SUNYIT was led by Tiffany Holthouse with six kills. Hillary Pundt added three kills and 10 digs. Michelle Nozkowski finished with eight assists and four digs.

New Paltz defeats Plattsburgh 30-20, 30-15, 30-11
The Hawks were led by seniors Kim Clouston and Franchesca Rodriguez with seven kills each. Amanda Brown totaled six kills as Stephanie Bova dished out 17 assists and Katie Becofsky handed out 18.
Plattsburgh was led by Karen Christian-Acero with eight kills as the Cardinals finish the pool play with a 2-8 SUNYAC record. Rachel Varney totaled four kills for Plattsburgh as Sara Koller finished with 22 assists.

Oneonta defeats SUNYIT 30-19, 30-18, 30-18
Oneonta was led by Courtney Wavercak with 13 kills and seven digs. Kristen Bennett added nine kills for the Red Dragons and Jessica Ptasnick handed out 19 assists and tallied four service aces. Oneonta completes pool play with a SUNYAC record of 6-4.
The Wildcats were led by Hillary Pundt with 11 kills, 20 digs and three blocks. Tiffany Holthouse finished with six kills and Kristen Skpowski handed out 12 assists for SUNYIT as they finished pool play with an overall SUNYAC record of 0-10.

Cortland defeats New Paltz 30-21, 30-27, 28-30, 30-22

Tiffany Chatman and and Michelle Gaufman led the Red Dragons with 14 kills each. Chatman tallied six blocks and Alice Kahrs recored seven. Kelsey Muka finished with 12 kills and 11 digs. Brittney Horton dished out 50 assists and collected 11 digs. Cortland ends pool play with an overall SUNYAC record of 8-2.
Senior Franchesca Rodriguez led the Hawks with 26 kills. First year Brittany Colye tallied 15 kills and Kim Clouston added 12 kills and 10 digs. Nicole Mercadante finished with 26 digs and Katie Becofsky handed out 47 assists. New Paltz claimed the East Division title with a 9-1 overall SUNYAC record.

New Paltz defeats Potsdam 30-19, 29-31, 30-19, 30-23
Senior Kim Clouston (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker)led the Hawks with 16 kills and 14 digs. First year Brittany Coyle (Middletown, NY/Minisink Valley) finished with 15 kills and five blocks, while Kate Roche (Patchogue, NY/Patchogue-Medford) totaled 11 kills and three service aces. Katie Becofsky dished out 43 assists as the Hawks collected their 20th win of the season.
Leading the way for the Bears were Jamie Kraus (New Paltz, NY) and Julia Vint (Endicott, NY) with 13 kills each. Vint also recorded 12 digs as Sarah Cunningham (Gananoque) finished with 11 kills, 35 assists, and 15 digs.

Oneonta defeats Plattsburgh 31-29, 20-30, 30-25, 30-23.
Junior Sarah Zimmerman (Queensbury, NY) led the Red Dragons with 19 kills on 32 attempts. Kristen Bennett (Skaneateles, NY) chipped in with 12 kills. Jessica Ptasnick (Wingdale, NY/Dover) finished with 39 assists and six service aces.
Plattsburgh was led by Karen Christian-Acero (Mooers Forks, NY/Northeastern Clinton)with 14 kills on 25 attempts for a .440 percentage. Becky Alvord (Ballston Spa, NY/Burnt Hills) and Lindsey Wilfore (West Chazy, NY/Beekmantown) each totaled eight kills and 18 digs. Susan Bodkin (Rockville Centre, NY/South Side) handed out 37 assists.

Plattsburgh defeats SUNYIT 30-10, 30-19, 30-19.
Sophomore Becky Alvord (Ballston Spa, NY/Burtn Hills) finished with nine kills and 11 digs to lead the Plattsburgh Cardinals. Gabriela Almeida (Curtiba, Brazil/Fort Zumwalt West) and Lauren Keough (Plattsburgh, NY) each added four kills. Susan Bodkin (Rockville Centre, NY/South Side) dished out 17 assists.
Leading the way for the Wildcats was Tiffany Holthouse (Clymer, NY) with seven kills and five digs. Michelle Nozkowski (Chester, NY) finished with five kills, eight assists and seven digs as Hillary Pundt (Skaneateles, NY) totaled five kills and 10 digs.

Cortland defeats Potsdam 27-30, 20-30, 30-27, 31-29, 15-10
The Red Dragons came back from a two game deficit to defeat the Bears in five games.
Leading the comeback for Cortland was sophomore Tiffany Chatman (Watertown, NY) with 12 kills and Michelle Gaufman (Wantagh, NY/MacArthur) finished with 11 kills, four service aces and 14 digs. Sophomore Brittney Horton (Owego, NY/Owego Free Academy) dished out 43 assists for the Red Dragons.
Julia Vint (Endicott, NY) and Sarah Carney (Victor, NY) lead the Bears with 13 kills each. Jamie Kraus (New Paltz, NY) finished with 12 kills and four blocks. Sarah Cunningham (Gananoque, NY) dished out 42 assists for Potsdam.

New Paltz defeats SUNYIT 30-15, 30-6, 30-18
Leading the Hawks was sophomore Samantha Prudente (Huntington Station, NY/Walt Whitman) with 13 kills and 10 digs. Kim Braga (Long Beach, NY) and Lauren Hogue (Burnt Hills, NY) totaled seven kills each with Hogue adding four service aces and 18 digs. Lindsey Brown (Jamestown, NY) recorded five kills, four service aces and seven digs. First year Stephanie Bova (Central Square, NY) handed out 57 assists for the Hawks.
Michelle Nozkowski (Chester, NY) led SUNYIT with three kills, seven assists and four digs. Hillary Pundt (Skaneateles, NY) finished with three kills and six digs.

Oneonta defeats Cortland 30-24, 30-21, 28-30, 30-24
Oneonta was led by junior Caity Welch (St. Verplanck, NY/Hendrick Hudson) with 16 kills and 24 digs. Classmate Sarah Zimmermann (Queensbury, NY) totaled 14 kills as Maegan Eddinger (Apalachin, NY/Owego Free Academy) recorded 39 digs. Jessica Ptasnick (Wingdale, NY/Dover) handed out 28 assists and Ashley Gerace (East Greenbush, NY/Columbia) dished out 17.
Kelsey Muka (Lansing, NY) led Cortland with 14 kills and Tiffany Chatman (Watertown, NY) collected 13 kills. Lindsay Snow (Baldwinsville, Ny/C.W. Baker) totaled 18 digs and Brittany Horton (Owego, NY/Owego Free Academy) handed out 37 assists.
