Field Hockey Downed by MontClair State, 9-1
MONTCLAIR, NJ — The SUNY New Paltz field hockey team traveled to seventh ranked MontClair State Thursday evening for a non-conference match-up and were downed 9-1. Jacqueline Sisco (Wappingers Falls, NY/John Jay) scored once while Jess Malone (Congers, NY/Clarkstown South) made 10 saves for New Paltz (1-8), which fell to 0-7 against Montclair State all time.
Junior forward Jennifer Tanis scored four times and added two assists.
Senior forward Kristen Swartz added three goals and an assist for the Red Hawks (9-1), who had seven different players register points in the game.
Swartz put MSU on the board 5:45 into the game as she took a pass from Tanis in front of the cage and slapped a shot into the lower left corner of the cage past New Paltz goalkeeper Nicole Kovac (Manlius, NY/Fayetteville-Manlius). Sisco would tie the game under eight minutes later with her fourth goal of the season. Ashley Smith (Selden , NY /Newfield) ripped a shot from the top of the circle that Sisco deflected in for the goal.
Montclair State would then reel off the next eight goals beginning at 17:43.
Kovac made three saves in 28 minutes for New Paltz before giving way to Malone. Jacquie Supko had three saves in the first half before junior Jackie DeRicco came on to record two saves over the final 35 minutes in the win.
SUNY New Paltz returns to action on Saturday, October 7 when they take on Oswego State at 1 p.m. at the Sports Dome in Milton, NY.
