New Paltz Volleyball Falls 3-1 to Stevens
NEW PALTZ, NY — The SUNY New Paltz Hawks Volleyball team hosted their home opener this evening in the Athletic and Wellness Center and dropped a 3-1 decision to Stevens Institute of Technology, 30-26, 30-23, 21-30, 30-22. The loss was the second in five days for the Hawks against the Ducks as the two teams squared off in the championship pool of the SUNY Cortland Red Dragon Classic on Saturday.
New Paltz was led by Kim Clouston (C.W. Baker/Baldwinsville, NY) and Franchesca Rodriguez (Guilderland/Schenectady) with eight kills each. Nicole Mercadante (C.W. Baker/Baldwinsville, NY) had 21 digs for the Hawks defense, while Katie Becofsky (Schalmont/Altamont) handed out 33 assists.
Stevens was led by Dawn Herring (Calvert/Prince Frederick, MD) and Summer Hamilton (The Bishop’s School/San Diego, CA) who tallied 14 and 13 kills, respectively for the Ducks. Micki Biltz (Lakewood/Lakewood, OH) dished out 51 assists and Rachel Ostroff (Miami Country Day/North Miami, FL) collected 28 digs.
New Paltz drops to 3-3 on the season and will return to action on Saturday September 9th when they travel to Western Connecticut State for a pair of matches against the Colonials and Westfield State.
