New Paltz Falls 2-0 to Geneseo in SUNYAC contest
NEW PALTZ, NY — The women’s soccer team travelled to SUNYAC opponent Geneseo this afternoon and fell by a score of 2-0. The Hawks got the first quality scoring chance of the game when junior Jamie McBain’s (Troy) shot from 18 yards out was floating just under the crossbar before Geneseo goalie Laura Castor punched it over the top at 40:25. The Knights broke through at 52:48 when senior Carly Chiappetta collected a clearing attempt on the left side of the top of the penalty area and blasted a shot inside the left post. Geneseo extended to a 2-0 lead as first years Stephanie Bergin and Dara Aber-Ferri played a give-and-go during a counter attack with Bergin finishing with a shot from 12 yards out. Geneseo outshot New Paltz by a 23-8 margin for the contest as Castor picked up the shutout by making four saves. New Paltz goalkeeper Sarah Boccard (Washingtonville) posted seven saves in net. The Hawks are 1-4-1 overall and 0-1-0 in SUNYAC and will take on the Brockport Golden Eagles tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m.
