Men’s Soccer Net’s 3-1 Win over Farmingdale
NEW PALTZ, NY — The SUNY New Paltz Hawks garnered their first win of the season as they defeated the Farmingdale Rams 3-1 this afternoon.
The Hawks dominated play in the first half but could not capitalize on any of their opportunities. New Paltz outshot Farmingdale in the first half 24-11 and held a 12-0 corner kick advantage.
Senior Daniel Cocciardi (John Jay/Stormville) opened the scoring at 61:47 on a one touch shot, after receiving a pass from classmates Daniel Libardi (New Lebanon/Canaan) and Garrett Munro (Sidney) from the right side. Three minutes later, 64:36, Joe Fabian (Newfield/Selden) netted his second of the year for the Hawks, which proved to be the game winner. Fabian took a penalty kick and had his shot blocked and deflected back to him on the rebound for a second opportunity to net the ball.
Sophomore Chris Hotzak (Smithtown) found the back of the net to put the Hawks up 3-0 at 81:20. Hotzak was in a scramble with a defensemen and the Rams goalkeeper Joseph Caccavale (West Islip) when the ball came loose and Hotzak had a clear shot at the open net.
Carlos Proano (Brentwood) scored the loan goal for Farmingdale at 82:59. Senior goalkeeper Jeff Dudley (Spackenkill/Poughkeepsie) played the entire match and recorded four saves for the win, while Caccavale made 14 saves for the Rams.
New Paltz travels to Union this weekend and will take on Rensselaer at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 9th.
