Cross Country Competes at Buffalo State Invite

BUFFALO, NY — The SUNY New Paltz men’s and women’s cross-country teams opened up their 2006 season at the Buffalo State Invitational on Saturday, September 2.

Senior Kelly Dunphy (Hauppauge) led the women’s team to a 9th place finish. Dunphy finished with a time of 21:39 and a 64th place finish out of a field of 139 competitors. First year Tara McGorry (East Islip) was close behind crossing at 21:45. Sophomore Stephanie Albinski (Commack) came in 75th with a time of 22:04. Rounding out the scoring five for the Hawks were first year Lisa Cassaro (West Islip) and junior Christie Carlstrom (Newburgh Free/Newburgh) with times of 22:38 and 23:02, respectively.

SUNY New Paltz men’s cross-country team finished 12th and were paced by first year Robert Grazier (West Islip) who crossed with a time of 29:36. Classmates Nick Avello (Averill Park/West Sand Lake) and Parker Ince (Riverhead/Jamesport) finished with times of 30:12 and 30:43, respectively. Also scoring in the top five for the Hawks were junior Sean Brown (Hendrick Hudson/Verplanck) with a time of 31:31 and Tim Ivancic (Wheatland-Chili/Churchville) who crossed at 32:50.

On Saturday September 9, the Hawks will travel to Vassar, New York for the Vassar Cross Country Invitational.
