R/TV students advance in contest
A team of Radio-TV students from the State University of New York at New Paltz were semifinalists in the U.S. Postal Service’s “P.R. Professional Experience” contest.
The contest is being sponsored by the Postal Service to find innovative ways to promote its online products to 18-30 year olds, including NetPost, Click-N-Ship and Direct Mail. The students submitted a full-scale public relations campaign that will be judged on creativity and ability to demonstrate a keen understanding of the Postal Service and its online product.
Two New Paltz students, Jae Rerner and Robert Jameson approached their professor, Gregory Bray, who teaches a seminar in production, about participating in the contest. Graphic arts majors Alex Shilin and John-Paul Cannicciari are also on the team.
“I can’t take a single bow for the work they have done. It’s really their imagination and intuition that is driving this and it’s been amazing to watch,” Bray said.
SUNY New Paltz is competing against New York University, Fairleigh Dickinson University, Dowling College, Montclair State University and Quinnipiac University to be a finalist and for the chance to win more than $2,500 in prizes for each team member, including a trip to anywhere JetBlue Airways flies and an Xbox 360, according to a news release from the Post Office.
