Hawks Top Union to Open Spring
SCHENECTDAY, NY — The SUNY New Paltz women’s tennis team opened their spring season with 6-3 defeat of Union, this afternoon. With the win the Hawks improve to 9-2 on the year.
In singles action, SUNY New Paltz (9-2) came away victorious in four out of six matches. Freshman Dana Lim (New City, NY) earned a victory at number one singles, defeating freshman Roni Brumberger (Scarsdale, NY) 6-2, 6-1. At number two singles sophomore Eri Yamakawa (Eastchester, NY) defeated freshman Kathleen Rucci (Schenectady, NY) 3-6, 6-2, 10-8. The Hawks lost in number three and four singles. Sophomore Jen Larson (Port Jervis, NY) and freshman Katherine Ketigian (Garden City, NY) each lost to their Union counterparts, 4-6, 0-6 and 5-7, 1-6, respectively. Sophomore Jodie Brenner (Plainview, NY) topped junior Kelly Fitzpatrick (Poughkeepsie, NY) 6-3, 6-3 at number five singles, while freshman Lindsay Trifiletti (Mamaroneck, NY) won number six singles 6-4, 6-4.
SUNY New Paltz earned two victories in doubles play. At number one doubles, Lim and Yamakawa defeated Rucci and sophomore Jessica Meola (Hartsdale, NY) 8-2. Larson and senior Sara Goldstein (Merrick, NY) came away with an 8-2 win at number two doubles, as freshman Ashley Trifiletti (Mamaroneck, NY) and sister, Lindsay, fell to Fitzpatrick and sophomore Jenny Dalenta (Tolland, CT) 4-8 in number three doubles.
The SUNY New Paltz women’s tennis team will host Stevens Tech. on Wednesday, April 12 at 4:00 pm.
