Hawks Post Second Consecutive 20-Win Season Under Walker
BEVERLY, MA — With a 3-0 (24-30, 24-30, 18-30) loss to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), the SUNY New Paltz men’s volleyball team completed their 2006 season with an overall mark of 22-11. The Hawks finished second in the North East Collegiate Volleyball Association (NECVA) Metro Division, for a third consecutive year, with an 11-3 conference record. For SUNY New Paltz it is their second consecutive 20-win season under Head Coach Ian Walker.
The Hawks entered the 2006 NECVA Championship Tournament as the fifth seed and advanced to the second round with a 3-1 (32-30, 23-30, 30-13, 30-24) defeat of 12th seeded Bard College. SUNY New Paltz then fell to 13th seeded MIT in the second round. Freshman setter Matt Weingarten (East Moriches, NY) picked up All-Tournament honors. The Hawks beat the Engineers 3-2 (30-28, 25-30, 30-28, 24-30, 15-11) in second round of the Endicott Tournament on March 4 of this year.
