Hawks’ Offense Too Much For CCNY

NEW YORK, NY — The SUNY New Paltz baseball team put an end to a four-game skid with a 19-2 win over the City College of New York (CCNY), this afternoon. With the win, the Hawks advance to 14-15 on the year.

SUNY New Paltz (14-15) scored seven runs in the first two innings to post a 7-2 lead after the second inning. Junior third baseman John DeKams (Kings Park, NY) recorded a single to left field in the first inning to become the all-time leader in career hits (139) for SUNY New Paltz. Sophomore pitcher Neal Rosengren (White Plains, NY) held CCNY (8-18) scoreless after the second inning. He pitched a complete game to pick up his first win of the year. Rosengren allowed two runs on three hits, as he walked five and struck out four.

SUNY New Paltz added 12 runs after the third inning, including an eight-run sixth to defeat the Beavers. DeKams, sophomore second baseman Tyler Antrim (East Haddam, CT), sophomore outfielder Jeff Stith (Selden, NY), sophomore catcher Robert Helf (Peconic, NY) and senior designated hitter Josh Gutes (Hauppauge, NY) each collected three hits in the affair. Antrim and Stith both totaled three RBI, as DeKams knocked in two. Gutes and Stith led a host of five Hawks who recorded extra base hits. Gutes ripped two doubles and Stith had a triple, while DeKams, Helf and senior first baseman Dean Glanzman (Commack, NY) each registered a double. Senior outfielder Bill Kelts (Waterford, NY), junior shortstop Daniel Garcia (Patterson, NY) and sophomore outfielder Jason Solotaroff (Wappingers Falls, NY) each had two hits on the afternoon.

The SUNY New Paltz baseball team will travel to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) tomorrow, Wednesday, April 12 for a 4:00 pm contest.
